History of Bullet Baba Temple Jodhpur
Om Banna (previously Om Singh Rathore: a banna is a term used for Rajput youth) was riding his motorcycle from the settlement of Bangdi near Sanderao in Pali to Chotila on May 5, 1988, when he lost complete control, and his bike crashed into a tree badly. Although the motorcycle slid into a neighbouring ditch, the man died immediately.
The morning after the accident, local police transported the motorcycle to a neighbouring police station. It was said to have mysteriously vanished from the station the next day and then been discovered at the incident scene. Authorities once more confiscated the motorcycle, emptying its gasoline tank and locking it up.
Despite their best attempts, it vanished again the following morning and was discovered at the collision scene. According to legend, the motorcycle kept coming back to the same ditch. Every police attempt to keep the motorcycle at the neighbourhood police station failed since it constantly returned to the same location before daybreak.
The local populace saw this as a miracle and started to revere the “Bullet Bike.” The neighbouring communities learned about the miracle motorcycle and subsequently constructed a temple to honour it. “Bullet Baba Temple” is the name of this shrine. Om Banna’s spirit is thought to assist weary travellers.
Every day, locals and tourists pass by a pause to make offerings to the helpful spirit and bow their heads; some drivers also leave small bottles of alcohol at the location. They begin their trip after the devotee applies the “Tilak” mark to his forehead and fastens a red thread to the motorcycle.
